Kates Tribute To Elizabeth

In the September/October Heroes issue of V Magazine, Kate Winslet pays tribute to legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor, shot by well known celebrity photographer Mario Testino. I love Kate, she is a real woman who knows herself and a true hollywood star. She’s so striking, which is probably why she’s the face of Lancome but in these shots, with the darkened brows and defined eyeliner I think she’s even more stunning. Styled by Carine Roitfeld, she looks very like Liz, especially in the first shot which is my favourite, it’s just so beautiful and a fitting tribute to the late actress.

NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner

I am in love with the colours in the new NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner collection!

In the September issue of Allure, Francois Nars created a “powerful & strong look”, he drew a thick, winged line using the Abby Road shade: “I started at the tear duct & followed the curve of the lash line to enhance the shape of the eye,” says Nars. They claim to be a rich, creamy colour, smudge proof and last up to 12 hours. I can’t wait to try them out!

Touche Eclat

I would say most of us have Touche Eclat in our make-up bag, I know I have for years. It’s been around forever, is used by make-up artists around the world and is described as a complexion highlighter that gives you radiant looking skin.

However for a long time it was only ever available in Ireland in one colour, N° 1  Luminous Radiance, which is slightly pink and doesn’t really suit some skin tones. So instead of brightening and enhancing the skin it can make it look dull.

The good news… they’re now available here in all 7 shades! They range from N° 1  Luminous Radiance, N° 1.5  Luminous Silk, N° 2  Luminous Ivory, N° 3  Light Peach,  N° 5  Luminous Honey,  N° 6 Luminous Amber and N° 7  Luminous Mocha. So if you’re still using the N° 1 but it just doesn’t seem to be doing you any favours then maybe it’s not the colour for you.

Some of us are not blessed with 18 year old flawless skin so if you have quite bad dark circles under your eye’s then I would use a slightly heavier concealer first and the use the Touche Eclat on top to add that brightness. Be careful not to overload the area though, especially if you have mature skin as too much product can actually have the opposite effect and age you. You can also use it along your cheek bones, down your nose or under your eye brow to add a highlight so have some fun and now with the full range of shades at our finger tips we can have lots! 🙂

Love the skin you’re in!

I’ve spoken before about the importance of looking after your skin, and moisturising, especially as you get older, is so important – this includes the boys too you know 🙂 !

In my piece on bridal make-up I spoke about prepping your skin for your big day but to be honest this applies to every day really. If you look after your skin every day then when you wear make-up it will always look better than if you ignore your skin completely. You don’t have to use expensive products or have a truck load but a few basic products that work for your skin type is all you need.

It’s important to know what skin type you are so that the product can benefit your skin as best it can. For example if you have oliy skin and you use a heavy/thick moisturiser then it’s likely that you’re skin will become even more oily and shiny and your make-up will slide off by the end of the day. On the other hand if you have dry/dehydrated skin and you use a light moisturiser then you’ll probably end up with dry or even itchy patches and your make-up will be cakey in areas and look awful.

I think it’s also very important to use either a moisturiser with an SPF or an SPF cream under your daily moisturiser. The latter is better but to be honest I’m not very good at doing this religiously. The daily moisturiser I use, Olay Total Effetcs (below), has an SPF of 15 so I wear this every day and if I know I’ll be in the sun for prolonged periods I will use a full Sun Cream. I really like the Olay as it’s nice and light but still moisturises my skin enough that it feels hydrated. It drys in pretty quickly and works as a great base for my make-up too. At night I use Liz Earle Skin Repair (below) http://www.lizearle.ie and I love this because it’s just that little bit richer and soaks in nicely over night. I have combination skin so I get quite oily on my T-zone but can be dehydrated on my cheeks and around my hair line and nose in the winter months so both these products work perfectly for me. As my skin matures I’ll have to look at the products I use as your skin will change over time but for now these work for me.

Tweezerman

Following on from my last post I thought I’d share with you one of my favourite tools – my Tweezerman! It’s no secret really, as these tweezers have come out on top of most polls and won numerous awards and once you start using them you’ll see why. I have used a few different tweezers over the years and they were all fine for the most part but I found for the eyebrows, they just didn’t get a good clean grip on the hair. I was normally left with a few broken hairs (which really drives me mad). The Tweezerman however has a clean, sharp tip that allows you to grab the hair close to the skin and get’s it in one pull. You can get them in mini versions too which are very cute and they come in a huge variety of colours and designs to suit your make-up bag 🙂

You can check out the full range here http://www.tweezerman.co.uk and they’re also available from Harvey Nichols in Dundrum Town Centre and selected Pharmacies.
